wisdomoftheweeds.co.uk grew from a fascination with the ways the natural world can be understood and remembered. Inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer’s Braiding Sweetgrass, I wanted to explore British plants through the lenses of both science and folklore, and see how those ways of knowing can intertwine, and even feel spiritual.
Here you’ll find stories about plants growing across Britain: their characteristics, their place in folklore, and the connections between what people observe and what they pass down. The aim is to share knowledge while staying open to wonder.
Have a look around, follow a plant that catches your attention, and join me in noticing the stories growing close to home.
